PIECES OF A MAN FT. MARIO PENA
?DATE: 2006-05-12

VENUE: It's a Dominican Thing 144 West 19th Street (7th Ave) New York, NY

Pieces of a man is a no holds barred foray into the mind of Mario Pena, an artist who aspires to change the world through his creations. Mario Pena's work is neither subtle nor simple; in fact it demands contemplation and as a result leaves an indelible imprint on the mind.

Speaking truth to power is what Mario P does so forcefully with each of his pieces. His work aims and succeeds in challenging and ultimately shattering politically correct notions of race, class and revolution. Some of his chosen subjects include Jackie Robinson, Gandhi and the truly controversial Sambo character. Mario Pena does not shy away from tackling difficult and loaded topics head on. His mixed media creations intersperse painting, photography and graffiti elements. Mario's artwork resonates with verve and originality.
